GRADES 3RD -6TH

What a Character! Drawing and Cartooning

Students in this class will learn basic drawing and storytelling skills that will help them create comic art and storybooks. Learn to draw figures, tell stories and create their own world on paper! Students will stretch themselves visually by transforming simple shapes into unique characters through various drawing techniques. Once they’re confident with the basics, we'll throw out the rules and have FUN creating original cartoon people and animals, as well as making greeting cards and comic/story books. For some projects, the instructor will dress in superhero costume to help illustrate gesture drawing. Toward the end of the semester, students will participate in a mini Comic Con and trade copies of their work. The goal of the class is to give students a safe and fun environment to learn and express themselves through comic and storybook art.
